What conditions can a prosthodontist treat?

Prosthodontists treat a range of conditions, the majority of which are related to tooth loss. In addition to treating oral injuries, prosthodontists also assist with cleft palates, snoring issues, and sleep apnea. Prosthodontists collaborate with other dental specialists as part of a treatment team for treating severe cases.

Teeth Reconstruction

To improve their beauty and functionality, a prosthodontist works to repair teeth that have suffered damage from injury, decay, or other causes. A prosthodontist is the one who places the crown on your teeth after a root canal if you need one. You may have heard of celebrities receiving porcelain veneers from prosthodontists.

Additionally, prosthodontists can alter the shape of your teeth using bonding materials. This technique can fix a minor gap between your teeth, reshape an irregular tooth, or alter the way you smile.

Implants and bridges

A prosthodontist may decide that a bridge is the best tooth replacement option for you if you've lost one or more teeth. A bridge is made up of one or more crowns connected together to form a single piece. The healthy teeth on either side of the gap are then used as anchors for this bridge. The bridge leaves no gaps, giving the illusion of natural teeth.

Bridges have been supplanted by implants as the preferred way of replacing lost teeth. A prosthodontist will give you a dental implant comprising a titanium post and an artificial tooth. The prosthodontist is the one who designs the implant for you, even though they may delegate the actual surgical process to another specialist. The titanium post is bonded with your jawbone, resulting in a stable, realistic-looking fake tooth that blends in with your natural teeth.

Dentures

A prosthodontist would likely advise dentures for you if you have lost all or a considerable number of teeth. False teeth can be clipped to implants or your natural teeth. You should consult a prosthodontist to locate a denture solution that is suitable for you. The best dentures are made to fit comfortably and appear natural. While some patients find it challenging to wear their dentures, many people get used to them quickly and do so daily.

Crowns, bridges, and removable or solid dentures require precise fitting and positioning, which is a specialty of prosthodontists. The prosthodontist will first evaluate the state of your gums and jawbone to decide the optimal size and shape. After that, they will make a denture of those measurements.

TMJ Disorders

TMJ disorders, also known as temporomandibular joint diseases, are exceedingly painful and result from irritated nerves in the jaw joint. Patients with severe TMJ problems consult prosthodontists to find ways to lessen or cure their pain. For TMJ, many prosthodontists advise bite guards, also known as stabilizing splints, to relieve strain on the joint. Additionally, your prosthodontist might advise physical therapy or give you a painkiller prescription.

Always seek the assistance of a certified prosthodontist if you need this type of dental work. You'll get the best results from someone with the proper training and experience.

Oral Maxillary Cancer Rehabilitation

Surgery can be used to remove any malignant growths from oral cancer patients. A prosthodontist can undertake oral cancer reconstruction surgery to address aesthetic problems.
